T : Alright, class.  Are you ready to start our class debate?  Our topic is here on the board: “Digital books are better than paper books.”  Letʼs start with the affirmative side. Raise your hand if you have a reason and support for this statement.
C : With an eReader, we have access to all of the books that we own.  We can read many on the train.  We canʼt carry many books with us every day.
T : Great, Chisa.  “Digital books are convenient.”
A : Itʼs easy to buy digital books.  We can order them wherever we are, and we can read them as soon as we buy them.
T : Nice, Atsushi.  Next, letʼs hear from the negative side.  Raise your hand if you have a reason why paper books are better than digital.  Remember, donʼt attack the other side yet.  Just give reasons to support your side.
E : Paper books donʼt use electricity.  Itʼs important that we use as little electricity as possible to prevent global warming.
T : Good idea ..., “Good for the environment.”
S : Reading from a screen is bad for the eyes.
T : Iʼm sorry, but this isnʼt the time to attack the other side.  Save that idea for later.  Now, just give the advantages of paper books.
S : OK, well ..., paper books are better for research. Itʼs easier to compare pages and flag important parts.
T : Great, Sho.
