- Watching Foreign Movies
- When watching a foreign movie, we can watch it dubbed into Japanese, or watch the movie in the original language while reading translated subtitles. I think that we should choose subtitled movies. First, the voices of actors is an important part of their performance. We should value the full product of their talents. Second, if the original movie is in English, we can learn English while we watch with subtitles. Of course much of the dialog is too fast, but sometimes key words stand out when we hear them again and again while reading the Japanese meaning. Third, many of the Japanese voice actors sound similar. Especially when characters have unique voices, movies are more enjoyable with the original sound. Interesting points such as regional dialects can also be lost. Choosing a subtitled movie values the talent of the actors, helps us to learn English, and makes the movie more enjoyable.
